Can't live without this Challenge! First Trip!

Writer: Matthew HaberstroMatthew Haberstro

Hi!

We are just days away from the start of our six-week journey through Bosnia, Serbia, and Romania – three countries filled with stunning landscapes and vibrant cultures and all too often underrated by North American travelers. I'm elated to be able to take this trip with Digimad and reconnect with some new experiences as we make our way into the future of the unknown.

This will be an adventure like no other, and I'm already dreaming of what will happen, who we'll meet, and all the amazing connections that are sure to be made. With guidance from our mentor, who has always encouraged us to step out of our comfort zones, I'm also eager to challenge myself in various ways on this trip. From learning a few words in Bosnian, Serbian, and Romanian (no matter how many mistakes it might lead to!) to tasting some delicious local delicacies – the possibilities seem endless! Having been to Romania before I am looking forward to having some Mici (Meech), Sarmale, and Mămăligă. The world-famous salads in Serbia definitely have me drooling! And when we're visiting Bosnia, we have been assured that a night with good friends and Rakija is absolutely essential and has been planned.

Of course there's one small detail before this dream can become reality…packing! Balancing all my essentials for six weeks while still leaving room for souvenirs can be intimidating but it's also an opportunity to practice simplifying what I bring. And although researching must-see destinations, custom tips, etc has been exciting, it doesn't quite compare to experiencing them firsthand!

So while I think of this, here's my fun challenge for you: what would you bring if you were going on a similar six-week journey? What items do you think are essential? Share your ultimate packing list in the comments below or even send me your best tips on how you prepare for such trips - I'd love to hear about your can't live without item! My can't go anywhere without it item is: Beard Butter! I love Grave Before Shave's - Aphrodisiac and Gentle Glow Soap Company's Mahogany Coconut for a nice change of pace! I can't live without these.

In closing! I'm so grateful for all the support and excitement shared by this amazing community that has formed around Digimad - regular updates, including photos & stories, will continue while we're away, so please don't forget to sign up for the e-list (The link should be on our home page!).

Until next time - keep wanderlusting!

Matthew
